Do you keep up with world events? Why or why not? from the Topic Blog

I read headlines in the paper. Occasionally, I read the first paragraph of the article. I rarely, if ever, read the whole thing. Why? Because so much of what is "news" today is made up of things I don't need to know. And what I DO need to know is SO big and scary and overwhelming that I can't deal with it. I am afraid that I am a typical American. I have lots of opinions, but none of the time, brainstrength or interest for them to be INFORMED opinions. So, if someone mentions something that is in the news I usually have a vague idea what they are talking about. I rarely have many details tho.
